Infrastructure

People and goods are transported to their destinations quickly and safely via water, land and air in the districts of Waldshut and Lörrach.

The region is directly linked to Europe’s principle traffic arteries via the freeways A5, A81 and A98. Trains and buses are vital players in the local public transportation system, even across national borders. ICE trains and connections to France’s high-speed TGV trains help travelers reach more far-off destinations both swiftly and comfortably.

Not only that, but railways are also at least equally important for the flow of goods: As a key transshipment point for the trans-Alpine route, the region serves as a hub for all of Europe’s freight traffic. High-power cranes in Weil am Rhein lift containers of goods from trucks and load them on trains.
Goods change methods of transport in the Rhine’s harbors, as well. Unloaded from trucks or freight trains, goods are then loaded onto ships and sent northward along the Rhine.

Whether traveling for business or pleasure: People in this region have their choice of two international airports where they can embark for destinations all around the world. The District of Lörrach is linked to all European intercontinental hubs through the tri-national EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg. The Zurich-Kloten international airport is also just a stone’s throw from the District of Waldshut.
